What are your candles made of?

Each candle and candle cube is made with soy wax that enables the candle to burn cleanly and evenly all the way to the bottom of the jar with proper care.

How much fragrance do you put in each product?

The fragrance load of a JMC candle is 9% all the way through. Most candle companies load their candles with only 3% to 6% fragrance, and only at the top of the candle.  Our candle cubes are mixed with 13% fragrance. Our room sprays are mixed with 20% fragrance.

Is the first burn important?

Yes! The very first time you burn your candle is the MOST important burn of the candle. Wax has memory, so the first time the candle is lit, the wax must burn all the way to the edge of the jar before extinguishing to ensure the candle gets the complete burn all the way to the bottom of the jar. This first burn to the edge takes approximately 2 hours.

How long do your product last?

Our 16oz candle burns approximately 70-75 hours, longer than the industry standard. Our candle cubes burn approximately 40-45 hours, longer than the industry standard. These figures are based upon proper candle care. The Candle Care Tips are found packaged with each of our candles.

What type of wicks do you use?

The wicks are 100% cotton which provides a clean burn when kept trimmed and free of “mushroom top”.

Why does the wick mushroom?

Wicks will have the “mushroom” affect when they need to be trimmed. Always use a candle wick trimmer when doing this so the “mushroom” can be thrown away rather than falling into the melted wax.

Why does a candle tunnel?

Candles have a tendency to “tunnel” if they were not allowed to burn completely to edge of the jar on the very first burn. The wax will only go as far as the first burn and then continue going down, instead of around and down.

Why do candle flames flicker?

Candle flames flicker when there is a draft in the room, and when the wick needs to be trimmed.

Why is the flame so high?

Wicks must be trimmed, preferably with a candle wick trimmer, to ensure the proper flame size.

How long is the burn time for your products?

Approximate burn time is

16oz candle burn time:

Candle Cube aroma time:

10oz candle burn time:

Do candles expire?

Some candles may begin to get a weeping or sweating look about them if they are in an area subject to warmth or sunlight. If this look is substantial, the fragrance has risen to the top of the wax and could be dangerous when lit, causing a higher flame due to the fragrance oil burning. Other candles may get discolored due the age, and smell more waxy than fragrant.
